How Our Body, Mind, and Soul Influence Our Feelings | Naturopathic Nutritionist

We often ask ourselves why we feel the way we do. Sometimes the answer is obvious – too little sleep, too many responsibilities, a stressful day. But when we look deeper, we discover that our feelings are a reflection of how we care for our body, mind, and soul. Everything is connected, and when we learn to see these three parts as a whole, we begin to understand ourselves more fully.

What we feed our bodies affects not only our physical energy but also our mood. When we nourish ourselves with fresh, wholesome foods, we feel more refreshed, have more energy, and find it easier to concentrate. However, if we rely on fast food, sweets, or too much coffee, sooner or later fatigue, irritability, or anxiety will catch up with us. Try starting your day simply – with a glass of warm water and lemon, and a bowl of oatmeal topped with fruit. It may seem like a small thing, but it is often these small steps that gradually lead to significant changes.

Just as important as what we eat is what we think. Our thoughts shape the reality in which we live. When we constantly dwell on negative scenarios, criticise ourselves, or allow stress to overwhelm us, our bodies respond – through tense shoulders, headaches, or a constant feeling of pressure. We can help ourselves with something very simple: sit down, close your eyes, and focus solely on your breathing for a few minutes. Imagine that each inhale is filled with peace and energy, and each exhale carries away tension and stress. Even just five minutes of conscious breathing each day can transform the way your entire day unfolds.

Then there is the soul – the often-overlooked part of our being. Our inner wellbeing is just as important as a healthy body and a clear mind. Yoga teaches us that if we do not make time for ourselves, if we fail to listen to our inner voice, it is easy to become lost in our responsibilities and forget who we truly are. Try creating a small ritual just for yourself – a few moments of silence before bed, writing in a gratitude journal, or taking a short walk in nature without your phone. These may seem like simple acts, but they can create a profound sense of connection and inner peace.

If you feel you need more than just a few minutes, allow yourself some simple yoga practices as well. A few rounds of Cat-Cow Pose can release tension in the spine, Child’s Pose can bring rest to the body and calm to the mind, and a breathing exercise with a slow, extended exhalation followed by a natural pause can be a powerful tool when anxiety feels overwhelming or when sleep seems out of reach.

Our feelings are not random. They are a reflection of how we care for ourselves – our body, mind, and soul. We do not need to change our entire lives overnight. It is enough to begin with small steps: a slightly healthier diet, a few mindful breaths each day, a quiet moment for yourself, or a few simple poses on the mat. When we practise these habits consistently, we begin to notice that we feel lighter, calmer, and happier. And that is the beauty of yoga – it brings us back to ourselves, to what has always been within us.
